Are you considering yoga as a solution for your back pain? Then continue on to read Yoga, The Back Pain Cure book review. It is one of the best yoga books on the market that deals with lower back pain especially for beginners. As always, I have personally read this book and attempted to put it in practice as a chronic back pain sufferer.
Even though pain relief varies from person to person, yoga is considered to be an excellent approach by most experts. Yoga can actually help relieve pain in a few different ways. First, the poses stretch the physical body resulting in increased flexibility and improved muscle strength. Next, the practice is known to reduce stress as it is very calming. And finally when used as a regular exercise routine, yoga is likely to improve overall health and prevent future pain episodes.

Review and Rating
Yoga, The Back Pain Cure promises to provide gentle exercises to heal or reduce back pain without medications and surgery. It does live up to those promises. In fact, I did not consider myself to be a good candidate for yoga due to the inflexibility my multiple back issues present on a daily basis. But the poses suggested by Howard VanEs (a yoga instructor) and Dr. Rick Harvey (a chiropractor) can even be worked into my daily routine.
The book offers a section for those with acute back pain which is extremely helpful in that you can get started right away. It also contains a section for when you’re out of pain that you can begin 2-4 weeks after the onset of pain or immediately if you’re not in pain. This routine can also be helpful to those who, luckily, do not need to address current issues but want to prevent developing an unhealthy back. The acute section becomes a warm-up for the strength, flexibility and prevention portion.
Included also is informative yet concise (thank you) chapters on the causes of back pain, the anatomy of the spine, lifestyle tips and even first aid suggestions. These chapters are worth reading to pick-up a few helpful hints and reinforce the reasons why you’re deciding to try yoga as a solution. The book is designed to be an easy read and I suggest to get all that you can out of it.
The illustrations and exercise directions are very well-done in that they’re easy to follow and put into practice. I liked the postures for pelvic and hamstring stretching the best myself. But many others are included such as the child, cat tuck, dog tilt and tadasana poses (just to name a few) that feel really good in the lower back region. For a couple of the more difficult moves, alternatives are presented as well. One downside for me would be that many of these poses are practiced on the floor which I have only recently been able to consider. But use of a yoga mat, folded blanket or towel does help.
- Gentle yoga exercises designed specifically for back pain relief and prevention.
- Easy to follow writing, illustrations and concepts.
- Simple yet comprehensive routines that can be practiced by most individuals.
- Floor exercises may be problematic for certain individuals.
- Although an excellent starting point, those that suffer from only mild back pain may need to move on to more advanced poses.
- Mr. VanEs and Dr. Harvey are certainly qualified to teach these practices but using a book is never the same as one-on-one care.
